LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington-based band NewTown has announced the addition of Jared Hensley on guitar. Hensley has worked for the past seven years with the energetic Darrell Webb Band after previous stints with Alecia Nugent and Next Best Thing. He is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and resides in Sevierville, Tenn., where he has worked in the house band for the Ole Smokey Moonshine Distillery in Gatlinburg. Although a seasoned veteran, Hensley brings a youthful energy to his guitar styling, making him a natural fit for the innovative sound of NewTown, which stradles the line between traditional and progressive veins of bluegrass.
“We are super excited to announce the newest member of NewTown, Jared Hensley,” said NewTown banjo player Jr Williams. “Jared is an amazing guitarist and brings vocal chops to the band as well. This young man brings a tremendous amount of talent to the stage. The melding of his guitar skills with Kati, Mitchell, Travis and myself brings a new, fresh sound to our sets.”
The band made the announcement official this afternoon with a post to their Facebook page.
NewTown is currently touring in support of their latest album, Old World, available now from Mountain Home Records. The album includes the hit songs “Naomi Wise,” “Heart of Stone,” and “Fly Away,” as well as many other new songs from some of today’s top songwriters. Blending the spirit of Alison Krauss with the soul of Sturgill Simpson, their unique sound is winning audiences from all walks of life, and they are excited to have Jared Hensley on board.
Earlier this week Jr Williams joined Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio to discuss, among other things, Old World along with sampling several of the album’s tracks. Listen to an archive of the show below.
