LEXINGTON, Ky. — This week CJ Cain and Arthur Hancock of bluegrass troupe The Wooks and Colin Michael and Deven Roberts of alt-rock outfit ivyrye joined me for Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio.
Joining me for the first hour of the program were The Wooks’ CJ Cain and Arthur Hancock. The duo and I discussed the group’s transitions in the last year with the departures of Galen Green and Jesse Wells along with the addition of Harry Clark on mandolin; the deep Kentucky connections on their new album Glory Bound and much more. We also sampled a selection of the new record including “Union Pacific,” “Little Sandy Queen,” “The Few (Of Far Less Fortune)” and “‘Seng.”
During hour two of the show I was joined by Colin Michael and Deven Roberts of ivyrye. We discussed each of the artists’ musical roots and influences, how ivyrye came to be, the band’s fusion of freestyle rap and hip-hop with rock’n roll, music socks and more. The duo also performed three original tunes — “Like You Did,” “Sally” and “Man in the Suit” live in studio.
