LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington indie rockers Lylak on Thursday unveiled “What We Have,” a new original tune and the first cut from their sophomore project following their self-titled 2017 debut. The song was produced, recorded and mixed by Grammy-nominated Stephen Trask (Hedwig And The Angry Inch) and mastered by Grammy-nominated Emily Lazur (Foo Fighters, Sia, The Bird and The Bee) at The Lodge in New York City.

Lylak is comprised of Gideon Maki (guitar/vocals), Zachary Martin (drums), Elizabeth Varnado (violin/guitar/vocals) and Paul Varnado (bass/synth). Maki says that “What We Have” is a “song about knowing when to give up during an argument with someone you love before you’ve said something you can’t take back.”

For a song about knowing when to give up in an argument, the song certainly takes on a much more soothing tone than what it depicts, with Maki and Elizabeth Varnado combining for elegant harmonies backed by an ebbing an flowing instrumentalization.

Lylak’s next performance in Lexington will be on Dec. 16 at The Heartwood for a pre-Christmas celebration with Simple Church Alliance. For more information on Lylak tune into episode 37 of Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio, which includes an interview with Lylak’s Gideon Maki.
