LEXINGTON, Ky. — Members of Home Grown Head Band and Vena Cava joined me this week for episode 70 of Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio.

The show kicked off with Drew Cercone (lead guitar, vocals) of rock/swing/blues/jam group Home Grown Head Band joining me from 9-10 a.m. to chat about he and the band’s roots, Home Grown HQ, new music and more. During the hour we also heard the latest single “Time Repeated” from the band along with a world premiere of “You Better,” the band’s next single to be released ahead of their upcoming album, which they’ll celebrate with a show on Sept. 7 at the Break Room at Pepper. Other music heard during the hour was “Domino (Time Will Tell)” from Hiss Golden Messenger (at The Burl on Wednesday, June 12) and “(Take Off My) T-Shirt” from Wicked Peace (at the Green Lantern with Home Grown Head Band on Friday, June 14).

Following a halftime break in which you heard “Girl Like Her” from Driftwood Gypsy and “Lil’Drinkypoo” from Vena Cava welcomed drummer Adam Potter of Vena Cava onto the show. We discussed Potter’s marching band roots and being a rock band in an area dominated by bluegrass music and singer-songwriters along with everything to do with the band’s new EP Coalesce, which you can get your hands on at the band’s June 13 show at Cosmic Charlie’s with Forrest and Indigo Storm. Other music heard throughout the hour included Vena Cava’s “Behold, The Coagula” and “Blue Lady,” both from Coalesce, along with “DAN” from Forrest and “Deep” from Indigo Storm.
