LEXINGTON, Ky. — Rock ‘n roller turned singer-songwriter Michael Tyree today unveiled his latest single “I Don’t Know Why.”

“I Don’t Know Why” is a story of a musician on the road, struggling with loneliness and addiction, with inspiration for the song coming from Tyree’s personal experiences of traveling the country, from California to Tennessee, Texas, Kentucky and everywhere in between, playing music. After performing as a member of The Past for nearly a decade, Tyree said that becoming a solo musician was a serious mental adjustment, later adding that even though the struggles in the song are overwhelming, knowing that there’s always a place to go home to keeps you going.

Wearing his emotions on his sleeves isn’t out of the norm for Tyree, who has gravitated to primarily songs with darker themes in his new life as a singer-songwriter. We’ve all had moments of doubt and despair, but rather than bottle them in Tyree embraces life’s difficult moments, giving listeners an example to look to and relate with so they too can better cope with loneliness, addiction and whatever other hurdles life throws their way.

Listen to “I Don’t Know Why” below.

Local listeners can catch Tyree live on July 5 at Best Friend Bar, July 6 at Sunrise Bakery and Aug. 17 at Woodland Park during the Woodland Art Fair. To keep up-to-date on Tyree and his music visit MichaelTyreeMusic.com.

“I Don’t Know Why” Lyrics

You know I’m lonely
Only one horse I ride
We roll like thunder
Never hang my hat at night
Some call it country
Some call it wild
Yeah that’s fine with me
I call it my life

California
Can’t shake the memories
Got my heart broke
Down in Tennessee
Yeah back in Austin
Where the sun got warm
Still got Kentucky
Where I was born

I don’t know why
I run
I don’t know why
You can’t help me
I don’t know why
I keep fighting
But I know
You love me

I miss my baby
Twenty cities left to go
Pretty temptation
That’s life on the road
Yeah I get sober
Then I break out the lines
Yeah just trying not
To take my own life

I don’t know why
I run
I don’t know why
You can’t help me
I don’t know why
I keep fighting
But I know
You love me

I don’t know why I run
I don’t know why
You can’t help me
I don’t know why
I keep fighting
But I know
You love me

You know I’m lonely
Only one horse I ride
We roll like thunder
Never hang my hat at night
Some call it country
Some call it wild
Yeah that’s fine with me
I call it my life
