LEXINGTON, Ky. — Monkeys Eyebrow, Ky. based singer-songwriter Kelsey Waldon joined me by phone and Knoxville by-way-of South Carolina songsmith Micah Howard joined me in studio this week for episode 72 of Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio.

Following opening songs from John R. Miller (“Too Much Livin'”) and Kelsey Waldon (“Pride”), who reunite on Saturday, June 28 for a show at The Burl, we fired up my June 20 interview with songbird Kelsey Waldon. Throughout our conversation we discussed her musical roots and upbringing in Western Kentucky, moving to Nashville an finding her way in the music scene, signing to Oh Boy Records, her first time meeting John Prine and more. Other songs from Waldon peppered in the interview were “All By Myself” and “You Can Have It,” both off of her 2016 effort I’ve Got A Way.”

Following the airing of my interview with Waldon we turned to highlighting a mix of new music and songs from artists performing live in Lexington later this week such as Abby Hamilton, The Vegabonds and Young Heirlooms. View the entire playlist here.

Shortly after 10 a.m. I welcomed Micah Howard and special guest Lance Rogers into the studio to begin an hour of pickin’ and grinnin’. Conversation began on the topic of Howard’s childhood in South Carolina, later shifting to discussing his experience as a Marine, dealing with PTSD, finding therapy in music, his upcoming album and more. Howard also performed two original songs, “Drowning” and “Cherokee Boy,” live in studio. View a Facebook live video courtesy of Lance Rogers of Howard’s radio session above.
