PREMIERE: Grayson Jenkins conjures up wild west fantasies on “Cowboy Dream”

By Matt Wickstrom

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Today we’re excited to share “Cowboy Dream,” the new single from Lexington by way of Muhlenberg County songsmith Grayson Jenkins from his upcoming EP of the same name.

For his first release since 2017’s Cityscapes & Countrysides, Jenkins recorded with an all-star group of instrumentalists, including drummer Miles Miller (Sturgill Simpson), guitarist/fiddler Jesse Wells (Tyler Childers) and harmonica player Mike Stevens (Raymond McLain, hundreds of Opry performances). The self-funded and self-produced tracks were recorded at studios in Whitesburg, Lexington, and Morehead.

Jenkins began writing the single “Cowboy Dream” last year during a road trip out west to Denver with stops in Nebraska and Wyoming before completing it months later with co-writing contributions from Abby Hamilton and Ryan Allen (Magnolia Boulevard).

Watch the official music video for “Cowboy Dream” below featuring the aforementioned Hamilton and Allen along with Nicholas Jamerson and Emily Irene and co-produced/directed by Patrick Brumback (Wicked Peace).

Jenkins performed the song earlier this year during an April appearance with me on Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio, which you can watch below. Jenkins will join me again on the program on Oct. 28 to discuss the single “Cowboy Dream” and EP due out Nov. 15 on AWAF Records.
