SAN BENITO, Tx. — Charley Crockett has reworked the lyrics of the nearly two centuries old traditional “Single Girl” in a new video released today in partnership with OurVinyl.

With his band the Blue Drifters all around a single mic, Crockett and the band craft a timeless sound. Crockett and the Blue Drifters head back out for the next leg of their fall tour this Friday, playing some of their biggest shows to date on the West Coast – a long way from the 10 years he spent busking on the street.

“’Single Girl’ is an old-time number that goes back to at least the 1850s,” said Crockett. “It’s usually sung from the point of view of a married woman who dreams of being a young single girl again. I took the tune and sang it from the perspective of the husband as he realizes his wife is on her way out the door. Me and the fellas started doing it around one microphone at shows and it’s just really been a crowd favorite. It’s a story that everybody knows something about and it never gets old.”

Crockett’s new album The Valley is his fourth album in two years, and his first full-length following the life-saving open-heart surgery he underwent in January. With his own mortality staring him in the face, Crockett wrote and recorded these songs one week before the surgery, determined to make the album on his terms. You can hear the urgency throughout the record.

Crockett, who wrapped up a month-long headlining European tour last month, will head back out on his U.S. headlining fall tour this week. The next leg of the fall tour hits the West Coast, and includes shows at the Troubadour in L.A., Tractor Tavern in Seattle, Wa; and the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, Ca. Crockett will also headline the historic Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Tx; on New Years Eve. All this comes during what has already been a banner year for Crockett, who has made his Stagecoach Festival, Grand Ole Opry and Newport Folk Festival debuts in 2019 along with appearing in Somerset, Ky. in July during the 26th annual Master Musicians Festival.
