Matt Wickstrom is a music journalist and photographer documenting Lexington and Central Kentucky’s thriving music, arts and entertainment scene. He is a 2017 graduate of the University of Kentucky’s School of Journalism and Media and a former editor at the Kentucky Kernel, the university’s independent and student-run newspaper. Wickstrom has had stories appear in the Lexington Herald-Leader, Chevy Chaser Magazine, The Jamwich, The Lane Report and Business Lexington in addition to this blog. Wickstrom also hosts Wick’s Picks on RadioLex WLXU 93.9 LPFM on Tuesday evenings from 5-7 p.m. highlighting local music and events.
Wickstrom has observed people from all backgrounds, ideologies and walks of life coming together through music, something he says is lacking in our society (which only seems to be growing more and more divisive), and hopes to further foster that sense of togetherness and community through music in all aspects of life.
Wick’s Picks was founded in August 2015 – originally named Big Blue Tunes – as a means of showcasing Wickstrom’s work and highlighting what is happening in the Kentucky and the regional music of Appalachia.
