Matt Wickstrom is a music journalist and photographer documenting Lexington and central Kentucky’s thriving music, arts and entertainment scene and a 2017 graduate of the University of Kentucky’s School of Journalism and Media. Wickstrom is a former editor at the Kentucky Kernel, the university’s independent and student-run newspaper, and has had stories appear in the Lexington Herald-Leader and Chevy Chaser Magazine, The Jamwich and more in addition to Big Blue Tunes. Wickstrom also hosts the radio show “Wick’s Picks” Monday mornings from 9-11 a.m. on 93.9 FM-WLXU Lexington Community Radio highlighting local music and events.
Wickstrom has observed people from all backgrounds, ideologies and walks of life coming together through music, something he says is lacking in our society (which only seems to be growing more and more divisive), and hopes to further foster that sense of togetherness and community through music in all aspects of life.
Big Blue Tunes was founded in August 2015 as a means of showcasing Wickstrom’s work along with being a way to share his musical passions and what was/is happening in the central Kentucky music and arts scene.
