Saturday at Festival of the Bluegrass featured arguably the 44th annual gathering’s most diverse lineup, musically speaking, with equal amounts of traditional and progressive bluegrass from bands such as The Grascals, The Wooks, Seldom Scene and Town Mountain amplified into the sea of attendees in lawn chairs. The Spirit of Sun Ra Lives on with Golden Dawn Arkestra

Led by Topaz McGarrigle, not many bands are as visually appealing and open in their spirituality as the traveling gypsy caravan known as Golden Dawn Arkestra. The group, which is constantly changing its lineup with each tour, all don elaborate African-inspired outfits and partake in ritualistic dances as part of their performances that are equally driven by their theatrics as they are the music. Back for it’s fourth year, Moontower Music Festival has announced that Cherub, JJ Grey & Mofro, Todd Snider and Great American Taxi, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Tyler Childers and Vita and the Woolf will head the lineup for the August 26 gathering at nearby Masterson Station Park.
