Former Wook Arthur Hancock – now of himself – has returned with a jubilant twang of Appalachicana on his solo debut “Alive at Hillbilly Central.”
Arthur Hancock wookie foot shuffled into the studio this week to join me for episode 71 of Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio.
After departing on their first west coast tour nearly a year ago that saw them walk away winners of the band competition at the Rockygrass Festival, the members of The Wooks were back at it again this past weekend, venturing cross-country to participate in another Colorado band competition: the 44th annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
Music connoisseurs of all ages packed the Green Lantern on Thursday night, moving and grooving to the signature Kentucky bluegrass of The Wooks. The show was the quintet’s debut at the rustic bar on Lexington’s north side, and the second for banjo player Arthur Hancock, who was sidelined with back injuries for the later half of 2015.
Thursday night local bluegrass quintet The Wooks will bring their home-brewed blend of mountain music to The Green Lantern — the group’s first visit to the bar that’s been a mainstay in Lexington for over 60 years.
